1. Special RMST 202 Survey
Please do complete the university evaluations for this course. Especially if this is a kind of course you’d like to see more of at UBC, positive evaluations would be very useful. (Of course, if this is not the kind of course you’d like to see more of, then you should express that through negative evaluations!)
But given the experimental nature of much of what we have been doing, we have also prepared a special survey for this course, looking at things such as the flexible structure and the contract grading. PLEASE do complete this survey, too. It will be very helpful, not least if for some reason my grading is questioned!! (But not just for that reason, of course.) Again, this survey is totally anonymous, and you should certainly point out any weaknesses or problems you have had in the course. That is also very good feedback for us.
The link to the survey is here: https://ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dbUM3KMf6vtAmcm
Please complete it (as you did with your blogs) by Monday night… and a special thanks for Patricio for putting the survey together.
2. Special RMST 202 Focus Group
As a final step, we would like to invite you to attend a focus group. We are seeking 10 – 12 students for this focus group. The purpose of the focus group is to touch on a range of topics from the survey. We are interested in discussing in more detail, for example, your thoughts on the contract grading system, on the choice you were given for texts and flexibility for attendance and perhaps even your experience writing and commenting on blog posts.
We should note that we are looking for a broad spectrum of students in terms of contracted grades. In other words, we don’t need 8 students that contracted for an A/A+. We’d particularly love to hear from some of you that contracted for a B/C+!
The session will be a one-time commitment of approximately 1 hour in duration.
It will take place this Monday, April 11 from 1:00pm-2:00pm (Online).
There is no recommended drink pairing, but feel free to come with a coffee or other preferred beverage in hand! We will use same Zoom link that we have been using for this course.
We appreciate your willingness to elaborate on your experience in this experimental course. These findings (as well as those from the general survey) will help us as we plan future courses, and also may well result in reflections on the teaching and facilitating of this course in a number of articles that we hope to publish in both academic and educational journals.
If you are interested in participating in the focus group, please RSVP by Sunday, April 10 by 12pm noon to janag237@mail.ubc.ca.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the focus group, please contact us… and many thanks to Jennifer for her work in putting the focus group together.
