On completion of this course, students will have:
- Read a series of significant twentieth and twenty-first century literary texts originally written in the Romance languages (Spanish, French, Italian, etc.).
- Responded to those texts through regular writing on a blog that they publish and maintain.
- Been introduced via lectures and conversations and class discussion to key concepts through which to understand and analyze those texts.
They will have:
- learned to think in new ways about the act and process of reading.
- thought about the ways in which literary texts always exceed and betray their object.
- helped to construct Romance Studies as a field of intellectual and political exploration and enquiry.
- (re)discovered an enthusiasm for reading and discussing literature.
