Broken Contracts

The short version of this page: make sure you set yourself a realistic contract, and do not break it.

If you keep to your contract, you are guaranteed the grade that it promises you.

If, however, you break your contract, whether by not writing the blog posts promised on time, or if they are not long enough, or by not attending the class sessions you have promised to attend, or by not writing comments on others’ blogs, or through any breach of academic integrity (which includes plagiarism or the use of AI to write blog posts)…

  1. Your maximum grade will be two half-grades beneath the grade for which you contract. E.g. if you have contracted for an A, then if you break that contract your maximum grade will be a B+ (you will no longer be eligible for an A-). If you have contracted for a B+, your maximum grade will be a B- (you will no longer be eligible for a B). And so on.
  2. Your grade will be determined according to your performance in midterm and final exams, as well as other factors such as participation and overall contribution to the class.

Again: do not break your contract!

And a reminder: the texts you have to read in order to pass this class are those by Proust, Bombal, Rodoreda, and Piglia. If you do not read these four, you will not pass the class. If you do, you will pass.
