The first couple of weeks (at least) of the Spring semester will be online.
During that period, and however long online instruction continues, we will be meeting on Zoom. Check Canvas and/or your email for the link.
Most of you should already be quite familiar with Zoom and how Zoom classes go. Here are a couple of notes from my perspective:
- I very much prefer that you have your cameras on. Especially in Breakout Groups, I expect you to have cameras on, unless you have an extremely good reason otherwise.
- If, for whatever reason, you cannot have your camera on, please upload a picture or image of some kind as your Zoom avatar. This way we will not simply be seeing black rectangles.
- Please feel free to use the chat for questions and/or comments. I may not be able to answer them immediately, but I am happy for there to be a side channel of commentary and discussion.
- In the first few weeks, we may start the class with a few get-to-know-you activities. Be prepared! 🙂
- If you are on campus, feel free to use the room reserved for us as a place from which to Zoom. That is often easier than trying to find a quiet place in a library etc.
- Remember that online class, just like in person, gives you back what you put into it. Please ensure that you have no distractions around you, and that you are focussed on class discussion, rather than checking email/Snapchat/Facebook/whatever…
- If you do not have your camera on, and do not respond when called upon (or do not go to a Breakout Room), then you will be considered absent for that class period.
