The first week of a course is often one of the busiest, as we are setting things up and starting the ball rolling. In the meantime, you are figuring out what’s what and we are all getting to know each other.
This course is no exception. You will find that, after a week or two, you will settle into a routine and know what is expected of you. But for week one you do have a few additional tasks…
- Set up a blog. Make sure you have turned off comment moderation.
- Watch the first week’s lecture and the related conversations video, and write a blog post (400-500 words) introducing yourself to the class, telling us your expectations for the course, and responding to the lecture. Use the category or tag, “Introduction.” Send me the address of your blog. Do this by Thursday night (11:59pm, January 11),
- Comment on two of your classmates’ blog posts.
- Decide what grade you want for this course, and fill out a course contract (PDF) accordingly. This is due on January 19.
- I very much recommend you purchase a notebook (you have many options), for taking notes of your readings, of lectures, and of discussions in class.
- Read Marcel Proust, “Combray” (if you are joining the course late, read to page 48 as an absolute minimum), and write a 400-500 word blog post, with the category or tag, “Proust,” due by Tuesday, January 16 at 11:59pm.
- Come to class, prepared to participate.
