Week 9- The Lover

Posted by: jasmeent

“The Lover” by Marguerite Duras was a book I actually really liked. Although I had anticipated to hate this book just from the context given in class it really caught me by surprise. The narrator’s perspective of the story is what caught my attention. In today’s world if a story is written about an underage relationship we automatically feel it is exploitive, abusive, and naive but this book took a very different view. The narrator takes back control and tells us the story in a way that suggests she knows...read more read full post >>

I wan’t to look away but I can’t!

Posted by: Lauren Waring

I found this novel to be a disturbing yet consuming read. Like you want to look away but can’t stop staring. The exploration of autonomy in the relationship between the young girl and the wealthy man challenges our instant victimization of the girl. Sh... read full post >>

12 Years Isn’t That Bad, Right? – The Lover

Posted by: Len

By far the shortest and most uncomfortable read at this point in the semester, The Lover by Marguerite Duras is a novel about the clandestine relationship between a 27-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl. The prose in this book is beautifully written, as an autobiography with Duras recalling her time in Saigon. She captures the […] read full post >>

Duras’ “The Lover”: Are All Books Meant To Be Written?

Posted by: Mehkai Manzano

Hi Romance Studiers, Going into reading “The Lover” by Marguerite Duras, I was warned by my girlfriend who had read it during her IB English class in high school. My takeaway a third into the book was “I cannot believe they made highschoolers read and analyze this text” and it did not get better. Even […] read full post >>

Posted by: Ludivine Cat

Hi everyone! Welcome back yet again. The semester is flying by.  This week’s book was The Lover by Marguerite Duras, and I found it quite interesting.  When I told my dad I was reading this book, he told me that he had reread it not long ago because he liked it so much and found […] read full post >>

The Lover

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s book. This week we read another book written by a female author, The Lover, by Marguerite Duras. This book was a lot more different than how I thought it was going to be. It is a story about a young girl who has an affair with an […] read full post >>

What Do We Get Out of People?

Posted by: simi2525

Hi everyone, this is my blog post for this week’s novel The Lover by Marguerite Duras. There is a lot to unpack with this book and honestly, there are so many different themes and layers that make this highly inappropriate relationship so complex. Firstly, I agree with what was stated in the lecture, which is […] read full post >>

That Was Uncomfortable But I Still Enjoyed It – My Experience Reading The Lover

Posted by: spinningmango

Because The Lover is the shortest of the texts I’ve read for this course so far, I spent less time reading it and more time reflecting on it. In reflecting on it, I found myself focusing on the rather banal theme of objectification—banal because it’s one of the most obvious themes to connect to aContinue reading "That Was Uncomfortable But I Still Enjoyed It – My Experience Reading The Lover" read full post >>

GO TO JAIL PLEASE. BOTH OF U “LOVERS” !!!

Posted by: adia

THEY DON’T NEED THERAPY, THEY NEED JAIL TIME. Warning: This book is so utterly explicit that my blog will have to be, so I am sorry if this is a bit much.  I’m 100% sure this relationship is simply sexual. Maybe I’m just a little conservative, but there is simply no excuse to make one […] read full post >>

“The Lover” or “daddy issues wrapped up in a fancy book”

Posted by: Nini

To say the least, this book made me very uncomfortable. Have any of you ever read/watched Lolita? These two books give off very similar vibes in the sense that they both make me want to crawl out of my skin. I will say I did enjoy the structure of the book, how we were revisiting […] read full post >>
